Hi all!
This week, I have been hired to shoot a concert (I know...I'm stunned too) by a local newspaper. I have been shooting a number of small shows for a number of months now (bars and small nightclubs), but I've never shot something in a big concert hall. So, I'm unfamiliar with the rules of shooting in that environment. Can someone who has done that sort of work answer a few questions: 1. Flash out the "three song rule". Do I get to choose when to shoot, or is that something that is handled by the band/venue? 2. I've heard that a press pass is usually only to shoot the three songs, but not a ticket to view the rest of the show. Is that correct? thanks in advance! pax ant

You get to shoot the first three songs of the first set only..no flash is allowed. Period!
After which, if you have a ticket, you put turn your camera into a secured area to be stored (kind of like a hat/coat check in room) then you can watch the remainder of the show. I've done that before, but also slipped the guy $20.00 to make sure the gear is still there when I return. As for a press pass, the local paper should make sure there is a media pass to shoot the band at the will call window. A normal ticket will not allow you to shoot the concert.
