Default My first senior shoot

I photographed my first senior portraits last week and wanted to share some with you guys. I think they turned out pretty well, however we had 40mph wind gusts that day so I couldn't put my strobe on a stand, I had to have her friend hold it for me and try to get it at the right angle, not ideal. Oh and my senior likes the grunge look and no makeup, she doesn't want to look "pretty" in her pictures, gezzz what a challenge for my first shoot but anyways, here they are. If you want to see more here is a link.

not very grunge looking. the one with her standing next to the brick wall has a lot of potential for "grunge look" processing. I would be tempted to give it a lomo or cross process look perhaps add some textures or bump the contrast on the wall. Nice portraits however.

Yea, I posted a few that were probably the least grunge. I tried to make them look nice (her dad and grandmother wanted the "pretty" ones, lol) I have a bunch with more textured backgrounds like the brick wall one. I'm waiting for her to choose her favorites before I spend any more time on post processing. I did a few to show her how I could remove her acne, but that's it. I think that brick wall has some potential too, just not sure what I want to do with it yet. I'm not real proficient in PP, I'm still just learning so I have no idea how to do lomo or cross process. But you have to start somewhere. (I did her shoot for free, just charging a little for prints)

if you want I can process an image or two for you just send me a link to a larger image. if you like the processing I can tell you want I did. The only problem with giving the one with the brick wall a grunge look is that her expression does not fit that look perhaps you have others where she is not grinning

Wow, that would be cool, I'm always up for learning, I was looking through the pic's and I think I got her to smile, at least a little for most all of them, lol. I have one with a lesser smile though. Here is a link to it. (If this way isn't large enough you'll have to tell me another way to do it.) Oh and I'm using GIMP not photoshop, but it seems like most of the same things can be done.

The images are not very refined and need more work however you should get the general idea of the effect. I specifically would work more on masking out the person and toning down the effect on the girl so that her skin tones are not too drastic. Also I didnt spend any time on fixing her skin or anything like that which would also need to be done for a finished image.

Yea, I hadn't fixed her acne yet, still waiting for her to decide which ones she wants! I think I'm torn between the 2nd and 3rd one. I like them both. I really like how it brings out the texture and color in the photo. Since we talked last I've been looking for plug in's for GIMP for that kind of thing, and I found some but can't really figure out how to get the info into the Script-FU. Are you using a plug in or certain steps?

Wow, you had a different effect on the picture. You really made her stand out from the background. You guys are giving me all kinds of ideas. It will be fun to show her some different processing options with some of her pictures. I can't wait to learn more about processing. The program can do so much, I'm learning more and more everyday.

I didnt use any plug in's for this just a series of steps. I use Photoshop CS3 but I think that you can achieve the same adjustments using gimp.
