Default Company Wanting to Use My Photography on Benefits Plan Booklet

Hello everyone! Exciting news! My company wants to use one of my photos on the cover of the 2009 Benefits Viewbook (think 20 page book outlining all the Benefits that we offer our over 10,000 employees. The Benefits Director said that this would go on about 2,000 viewbooks.

How much should I charge them to use my photograph on these viewbooks?!?

Help!

Wow - that's hard to decide. How much would it be if they found that photo on a stock website...?

i'd go to a stock site and get a price (photoshelter has a good pricing system.. quite easy to navigate)

take that number.. than take a large percentage off.. (that way they will come back next time because you're cheaper)
thats what i'd do.

hey

congrats first of all. i am not sure as to what i am going say may help or not (the intention is that it will give you a better idea of the cost). i dont really have much experience in this field. but nevertheless,...the first quesiton or rather a few that crossed my mind are

a) how much is this "viewbook" selling for??
b) it different when something is 'over-produced' meaning that it will continue to be published (for example a story book cover - that would have like thousands of copies made each year) rather then something that is a "one shot deal" meaning a new copy (with different pictures and new information) comes out every year - it all depends on the senario that you are in.

-now depending on the price of this book, and assuming that the people who are selling this book intend to make money off the book. i could say anywhere from 10%-30% of the asking price of the book.

for example if the book is 20 dollars. you would make anywhere from $2-$6 per book. (it also depends on your experience level - the "better" you are the more you can ask)...

i hope this helps a little

Danny

actually this is a brochure-type book that outlines the benefits that my company offers....it's for internal use only...it will go out to over 3,000 employees nationwide. Hope that helps for responses....

Hi there

Don't know if you have a version of this in the States but this price guide is quite handy. I use it a lot and has helped me justify my fee quite a few times. Maybe there is a version for you guys across the pond? Hope this helps.
