Default Someone wants to buy an old picture

So, I don't sell prints for my photo shoots. I do a CD with limited pics and a print release. Its just what I like to do. Its supports my hobby and I enjoy working weekends like I do.

But.....someone has spotted some pictures on my blog from a year ago! And they wrote me to ask if I would be interested in selling some prints! They are pictures from my trip to Northern California of the redwoods and the coast. They want to use them to put up in their living room. Sooooo....said yes, I would sell them some prints. Now, what the heck do I charge! LOL! I have no idea what sizes she wants or anything yet, I haven't even heard back since I sent her a reply saying I would do it.

But trying to get a feel for what is right. No framing...just printing. I've read mixed reviews on DPS about what to charge for prints. But since this was not affiliated with a shoot, just some old pictures I had laying around....what would be fair? Would it depend on size? Or maybe one price and then add what I would pay to print it onto that fixed price. For example....I'll charge $50 + print price for each picture. So depending on what sizes she gets, it would vary. Does that sound fair?

For a one-time deal w/ one photo for one person, I would not make a print. You are not sure what to charge, don't have a lab or a shipping method. My suggestion is to keep it simple for yourself. Charge $50 for a hi res file on CD, collect payment and mail it off. They can have it printed at any local photo lab.

Getting a quality print made & shipped properly is huge if you've never done it before. If you want to investigate this and add prints to your business, this is a great way to start. Otherwise it's nothing but headaches for a little bit of money. My 2 cents...

Uhh... what are you talking about? I've done this plenty of times and it's worked out very well. I've even shipped poster sized stuff and they were very happy.

Oh, I would use the pro photo lab place here in town. http://www.mastercolorlabs.com/ They are right down the street from me and its where i get all of my personal prints done. So shipping wouldn't be an issue since this person live here in town too.

But my hubby also suggested I just do a CD since that's wat I do. I could right up a one time only print release or somethign like that. So definitely an option too. Hmmmmm....but what to charge? LOL!

My general rule is at least 100% profit. So if it costs you $50 to print, you charge at least $100.

Ive seen some simple prints of not-that-great images going for $125 online. Since this is a one-off, then you could conceivable go $150 or more, though that may be discouraging to a buyer.
