I can't tell you how important this part is. When i got married the lady took over a YEAR to get us the prints. I was really frustrated and upset at her.

Duna,

Good luck. I hope you do well and have a great shoot. I think it's wonderful that you're doing it as a gift.

Default Update...

Well, things went as well as I could have hoped.

It was a small outdoor wedding in Suttons Bay, Michigan, very relaxed. The weather was a bit chilly and the sky was overcast, for which I'm grateful. I'd purchased 36" diffuser screens and a silver/gold reflector, anticipating harsh sunlight. Neither was necessary.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I'm busy making a DVD slideshow for the local reception (IL) on Saturday, and then I'll begin working with the bride and her mother on the prints and album.

Honestly, I don't think I would enjoy shooting a large wedding for people I don't know. The familiarity and informality of this wedding made the whole thing fun! Kudos to full-time wedding photogs!

Default Recap...

in case anyone is interested.

I'm not done with pp yet, but I slapped together some shots for their local reception on Saturday.

Duna, I really enjoyed watching your slideshow -- your photos are just beautiful, and what a wonderful gift for the bride and groom!

Love the shots. Good job. I never would have guessed it was your first.

Liked everything but the music. But I am a man, so I am sure my taste in music is quite different than the Bride.

Warning: Personal opinions that in no way reflect what I thought of your pics from the wedding.

Also, I was just talking to my wife about a personal opinion about wedding photography. It has to do with weddings at lakes and beaches. There's always the same shot with the water in the background but is usually so obscured by the people that you can barely tell there at the water. I told her if I ever get the courage to do a wedding to make me take a step ladder with me to set up in the back so I can look down on the wedding and have a different perspective that includes the water. Just a thought. Either that or I would find a higher vantage point for this shot.

Whew, I feel better. Had to get that off my chest.

Couldn't agree more. Wouldn't have been my choice either.

If the water had been pretty that day, I probably would have tried to get more of it. I've been eyeing one of those little 3-step ladders at Ace Hardware that are for the kitchen. I think that would do the trick. I almost killed myself standing on a folding chair out on that uneven lawn.

Thanks for taking the time to look at the pics and comment. I've been sitting at my computer for two days now doing the pp. It was nice to have a little human interaction.
