Default I survived my first real shoot...

Well, I did the shoot for the choral group this afternoon. I shot a small group of 4 with their instruments, done outside in shaded late afternoon sun. Went really well....amazing how a tripod and a DSLR will get people to walk around you instead of between you and your subjects.

Did the full-up choral group in the perfomance hall. Did some traditional shots on stage, then did some more relaxed, informal shots, then I went up in the balcony and shot down at them with them looking up (they were in a tight horseshoe arrangement).

I started out shooting in raw, but went to jpeg when I realized how quickly it was filling up my memory cards. I think it will work out well because the interior lighting was not florescent but stage and there seemed to be plenty of illumination.

Now I need to get them off the camera so I can do the post processing. They need several shots for advertizing as well as the program. It will be exciting to see my work in print for the first time!

For those of you who are wanting to start a biz and are worried about being too inexperienced.....jump in! If you act like you know what you are doing (and can produce a couple of photographs the customer likes), others will assume you are a pro. It was a lot easier than I imagined it would be.

Oh, and I recommend a good tripod (?cost, mine I already had) and a remote trigger if your camera can use one (I got a wireless one for around $20US).

Terrific, Congrats- Don't bother with raw-just nail exposure and white balance in camera, and you won't need raw clogging up your memory cards. I have been a photographer for 47 years now, mostly Building progress shots and weddings, and with digital for the past eight years, and I have never needed to shoot raw yet, I can get 20" x 30" prints from my D50.Regards, Ken

Personally, I prefer having the data intact in the file, instead of settings being baked in.

All up to the individual, though, and it's not like you'll get bad shots going jpeg. Besides, memory's really damn cheap, and you'll still get a crapload of shots if you go RAW.

Thumbs up Congrats

Buy more memory cards and shoot RAW. You can always convert from RAW to JPG but there's no way to go from JPG to RAW.
