Default Possibly the best use of Groupon I've seen so far...

Well, we all know what's thought of Groupon, especially when Photographers use it to drum up some business - it usually rarely makes sense.

However, I spotted a local company offering a basic camera usage course for £35 that is for groups of 8-12 people for 3.5 hours. Taking into account Groupon's ~50% take, and if they have 12 in each group (they should, in theory as they sold out at 70 people), they should be taking around £60 an hour.

Obviously that's not as much as if those people were paying full price, and it doesn't take into account the admin side of things (however, there's no editing and no real tangible product they have to provide, as far as I can see, and it's outdoors so no studio fees, etc.), but it certainly works out a lot better than the normal pittance many photographers end up with when doing portrait sessions and xx amount of prints, etc.

I've actually been on a course purchased through groupon and a local photographer here in Newcastle, England. There were 10 of us on the course and I found if very helpful. I've now booked to go on another course with him later this month.

At full price I assume?

Good example at how Groupon could work drumming up new clients.

I've never made a Groupon post, but I just had this come through in my email so thought I'd bump it in here:

1 hour studio session for up to 12 people. Includes 7x5 FRAMED print.... £10

94% Off at Blink of an Eye Photography

Yep at full price. They guy really seems to know his stuff, the advice was helpful and informative. Not only that he really knows the area and the history, which made the whole day very interesting in many more ways.

Another good use of Groupon is as a customer and new to the business photographer. Buy these really low photography packages and go and research what they do. They might be bad at marketing but they might be good at the photography side.
