Default Rock Band Cover

Thanks for reading my thread! I am in need of help. I am new to photography business, started this year, and I have been approached by some small time bands in the Seattle area to use one of my photos for an album cover. I have little idea where to start to price this image. I am thinking if they are only going to use it for an album cover then I would like $500. If they are going to buy full rights to the photo then some where closer to $750. keep in mind these number are just pulled off of the top of my head as I have never done this before. Who knows if they will even want it for $500, if not do I sell it for less or run the chance of never selling it? I do not need the cash as I have a full time job, but I would like to by a new Canon 5D Mark II. Here is the image Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More

You know, I would sell the photo as per use basis, but not completely giving full rights, especially not for $750.

I would start the number higher than $500 to be honest. Cause it will leave room for haggling (if they do). Also, if they can afford to record an album and I don't care how small of a band they are, they can afford to pay for art cover.

But regardless, don't give them full rights to the photo. Price according to what they want to use the image for and limit to that.

Don't sell yourself short.

I can't comment on how much to charge as I am a Noob (but I do agree with graciousness) but just wanted to say I love your pictures Very nicely done!

There it is right there! You need to start charging the prices set in your area. What happens if the group hits big-time and your images end up in Rollin Stone as well as other magazines in the music industry. Don't forget about T-shirts,sweat shirts, posters. IF the band is making money, they can afford to pay for photos. Give them limited rights usage for personal use only, no third party rights, so if they want to have the photos published elsewhere they have to pay you again.
