I only have one avenue of marketing, and it costs me exactly $183 a month.

Cool, I've just worked out what I've spent so far and was wondering how it compares

$256.00 total, but that's a bit misleading.

I actively promote portraits when I'm at Dog Sport events, but that's all just talking with folks and carrying a couple samples (included in the amount above).

None. I do all of my marketing through word of mouth, SEO, networking and 2nd shooting.

I may have spent in the ball park of 250-350 in Facebook ads and printing fliers to post around local businesses.

I spend nothing either. Most of my clients spread my name around to others and it has a snowball effect.

I don't spend hardly anything on it ... I try to come up with non-traditional ideas of advertising .. most expense comes from in-studio events. For example, last year I bought an Xbox, Kinect and several dancing games which cost around $500. Then maybe another $100 in food & beverages. This was used for a senior spokesmodel event .. the dance games were used to create contests for the seniors (mostly girls). I booked about a dozen new seniors who came in to play that day which was around $14K in new business from a $600 investment. Plus it was fun.
