Default Review overall work?

Anyone who is willing to help look over my work on my portfolios in model photography here and product photography here...

I shot a lot in the past year and still adding more this year but I will be focusing a lot in 2013 in presentation of my work like website, and print/online portfolios (if I can't afford an ipad or other pads).

This year I'll be working on bikini portfolio, bodyscapes, nude parts modeling, nude modeling, and environmental portraits for my model photography side and my product photography just photographing more in different type of lighting instead of the plain and simple generic high key work I have already. I may play around with and touch base in conceptual photography with the models I've already worked with, and play with fashion photography.

What you guys think? I have open ears... As you may know my goals is to make a very strong portfolio in model photography primarily and a bit of product photography to slowly get into conceptual photography that tells a story of a product using model(s) in a photograph for commercial advertising photography goals and my fine art goals would be telling a photo story within many images (like a comic).

Be harsh... I can take it, but those are my goals.

Chris,

Very cool that your putting yourself out there for critique. What are your goals for your photography? Do you want this to be a source of income or is photography more of a creative hobby for you?

No offense, but don't all of your posts end up with people giving you advice that you ignore? :P

As previously mentioned, you have way too many of the same type of pose, lighting and studio shots in your portfolio, Some of the weaker ones are dragging the good ones down. You need to think about re-editing down to much stronger portfolio.

Chris, we have given you LOTS of free advice over the past few months, heavy emphasis on free.

You continuously choose to purposefully ignore us and what we have to say. I'm afraid I'm finished trying to remotely offer any critique or guidance of any sort due to your obvious lack of interest in wanting to listen to the voice of others vastly more experienced than you.

I had to pay to get some of the free advice that's found on here and you routinely dismiss it with a smug attitude of defiance.

So in closing, no I won't critique your images, I all ready have dozens of times and its only fell on deaf ears.

Eric

Sometimes we are our worse editors.......some think, more the better, because they are too close to their images and don't want to edit the images down to a much stronger portfolio. And that kills them!

Hey Chris,

As others have said, too many in your portfolio. Although, your links are to your flickr account and we tend to just dump a lot of photos, even the not so great ones, in that account.

Would have been better if you linked it to your website and people can look at your proper portfolio there.

To be honest, I don't think your work is strong enough at the moment. You'll need much, much better techniques and skills to be competitive in the market. Better lighting, better model poses, better hair and make up to bring out the best in your models. Your portfolio at the moment screams amateur in comparison to the professionals so you will need to up your game a lot more if you are planning on doing it professionally. Which means now is not the time to do it.

I am sure you follow professional fashion or model photographers out there and look at their work. Your own photos need to be, at least, as good as theirs. If you were a different kind of photographer (like family photographer, etc), then maybe the criteria for quality wouldn't need to be as strict and high when starting out, but in the modelling and fashion industry, you just simply can't show ok photos. They are so brutal in that industry they won't even look at you if you show your portfolio now.

Your passion and perseverance will get you to where you want to be, however, that time is not now.

I'm just going to throw in a kick in the teeth.

Rowan Papier - FASHION

Last time I saw that guy, he was producing that work and similar - he didn't know and couldn't grasp the concepts of aperture etc. Then he went to work in NY for Vogue. I KNOW I'm a better photographer than him, however, he has immense visualisation and I'm happy to admit that I'm extremely jealous

When you're work looks like that, you might have a shot :P

my final goal is to provide commercial advertising photography, but for now willing to work in portrait photography like family portraits, model portfolios, headshots, etc. for business purposes primarily and as a hobby and possibly a business to do fine art story-telling photography (photo stories).

I don't ignore anything just use what I think would work in my situation and style, if I don't respond that doesn't mean I'm ignoring it, I will try everything at least once especially if it make sense for my application.

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense! I know about not being ready to compete in commercial advertising, and such related areas, for now you think I'm ready for family portraits, local headshots maybe?
