And sometimes we have to do what it takes to put food on the table and pay the bills. There are times when that $50 from a couple of hours work can, for some, make the difference between eating that week or not (I have been there, and it's not nice, trust me, your views on this will be different.)

These jobs can sort the men from the boys - either you will learn from them and move on up to bigger and better things, or you will drop out and do something else for a living.

And as for the companies? Sometimes you don't need the "best", just something that does the job. There's no point in paying over the odds for something you don't need. And yes, sometimes they are being too cheap and it will bite them on the backside when they realise they should have paid for a "proper" photographer in the first place.
and how are these ads any different really than begging for free blog content in your signature lines, which some people here do??

Seems like we are ALL looking for something to benefit ourselves without paying too much for it. Some would consider it too costly to 'give up copyrights' to pictures they took of some hotel for $15 an hour...come on..really? is your portfolio that skinny? It's a throw away job and there are people out there that would love to have it.

Always the problem with the internet. I've seen so many arguments get started between two people that agreed with each other, but thought they were disagreeing with each other lol

I thought you were

I think we would all take a cheaper (not cheapest) route when we can, it's one of the reasons why web sites like Groupon and Living Social have taken off like they have.

Here's what we face everyday.
Here's a craigs list ad for ya. Attn: Wedding Photographers
Sometimes, I'd like to ask the bride, "How much did you pay for your dress, that'll you hope to wear once. How about the flowers that will wilt in die in three to four hours? What about the catering, all that food and booze you purchased to impress the guests? Let's don't stop there, who much are you spending on the honeymoon, which are just fleeting moments and memories? Photos will last, the rest, don't!

Wow Jim, that ad cracked me up and make me cringe at the same time. I can't even imagine shooting a wedding because of all the work that goes into it. And if that's a real ad, I can't imagine an exceptional, amazingly talented, fun photographer wanting to work with someone who thinks all they do is shoot tons of photos and edit. Good luck to her!

Maybe we should all respond to her ad and quote her $5,000.00.

Signing over copyrights to my images is a deal-breaker to me, and should be to most any photographer with half a brain.
