Hello All,
My Picture Perfect Art is a brand new Establishment and we are just wondering how can we obtain more traffic onto our website? Also a local bar in NYC contacted us and wanted us to put together an art show in there bar. Any comments?? Suggestions? Advice from other photographers would be nice... Also I purchased a N5- from Sony... what does everyone think of this?? |

Your correct. I will keep this in mind when we set up for our show. Thanks for your advice. Do you know if the bar owners should make a percentage of sells or the fact that i am bringing traffic into their establishment should be sufficient?

In my experience, when someone wants to use your photos to decorate the walls of their business, and you have to pay the costs to print and frame, you keep the earnings. That's only fair.

this will be a one time showing.... it will be about ten local artists displaying their art during a jazz night.... so as the bar customers come into the bar they will be surrounded by art and hopefully will begin to buy some!

Art shows are a great way to get your name out in the community. Be sure to do some marketing of the show yourself. Do you have a social media account? Like a Facebook or something like that, where people are already fans?
Blending face-to-face involvement like an art show with your own friends/fans helps both you and the bar where the art show is happening. Be sure to contact local media people about the event as well. I suppose what I'm saying is having your work in an art show isn't always going to do a whole lot if you don't market the whole event as well. |

It's been fairly standard practice from what I've seen (generally on Craigslist) that the venue does take a cut for the art sales. This can vary from reasonable (they are supplying the wall, potentially some advertising, and taking care of the transaction) to outright robbery. Negotiate. If it's their first time, have low expectations.
To further complicate the issue, if you price your stuff too high no one will buy. If you price it too low, no one will buy. The right price in New York City isn't the right price in Sheboygan, and what sells in Dubuque would be beneath notice in LA--the work of a hack with no self-esteem. |

Yes - your correct on blending our friends and fans to the art show and contacting the media. I never thought of contacting the media for coverage of the event. Great suggestions and I will use this approach for our event. Thanks so much!
