Default How to word this politely...

So I did a draw for a local charity - winner receives free session, and an 8x10 print. I am set to do the session in a couple days and just had the client ask me if the "photos" will be ready for her to send out as Christmas cards.

Perhaps I am reading too much into it - either she plans to buy digital images (I do sell them but we have never talked about it), or is unaware she is getting a PRINT (even though she herself has stated it), or plans to scan the 8x10 to use for digital images and then to put on her cards.

I am genuinely just wondering if she knows she isn't getting the digital images but don't want to sound rude when I tell her.

Technically (or legally), are people allowed to scan a photo and then use it digitally? I don't see why not but it just doesn't seem right, especially when I SELL digital images.

Anyway, if anyone had any thoughts I would appreciate it. I'm not sure what I am asking haha maybe just ones take on the situation.

Thanks!

Call her up- its an opportunity to make a sale...She mentioned that she wanted xmas cards - you can have those printed for her. Maybe she wants 25 4x6s - you can get her a price on that as well. Assume she wants to buy & sell it to her. At some point she'll gain clairity that shes only getting an single 8x10 if she doesn't do any thing.

zona is right, it's an opportunity to make a sale, ask what she wants and say "I'll get back to you shortly with a quote", this will give you time to do some research and think without pressure. it'll be fine.

Once again, I agree with what Bruce (Zona) is saying above. To me, it's simple. You give her what you offered as free (the session and one enlargement), and anything else she'll have to pay for. And unless you give her the rights to do so, copying the 8x10 for reprinting is in violation of copyright laws, and you have to make that very clear to her..preferably in writing. Bottom line, and for a fee, either you provide the Xmas cards or the photos for her to use in the cards

Any news?

I definitely see this as an opportunity rather than a problem.

"Sure, I can have Christmas cards ready for you by [date] or faster for a rush fee. If you prefer to make your own, you can upgrade from the print included in your package to a digital file to use on your cards for [$$]. If you are looking for small prints to insert into Christmas cards, I offer [blah blah blah]."

Personally, I make more money by selling the rights to use the file than I do by selling the cards by the time I factor my printing costs, shipping, etc, so in these cases, I prefer to sell the file.
