Default Over kill kit for small wedding? :D

Well I have a small wedding im shooting today at a hotel it should be 50-100 people no brides maids or grooms men. The wedding at at 6pm est. I am starting the bride shoot at 4pm and sun set is at 5:15.. Ya I know not much time but its just the close family pictures and bride and groom. Like I said this is a very small wedding. The hotell is not that great of a place to shoot so I dint think this will be my best pictures but we will see.

If you go to the flickr page the picture has the notes about what everything is. I don't think I am forgetting anything apparent.

Better to have and not need than need and not have.

I was suppose to have a Canon Rebele XSi as a backup but unfortunately my friend forgot it at his dads. So the church let me barrow the D70. The good thing about the D70 is the electronic shutter. Can you say 1/1000 outside sync? This wedding is much much much smaller than most of the weddings I do. Why am I so nervous? I am fighting with a 3 year old while getting ready. Portrait and kid shoots I have fun at but weddings I over stress I always have. This is my 4th wedding as the main photographer.

I hope to have either a 60d or a 7D by the end of next year. So I will use my 20D as the backup camera.

Holy battery overkill Batman!

I realize it's personal preference, but a higher ISO will preserve some of that battery power in the flash. Also, NIMH recycle flash units faster than standard Alkaline...NiZn is even faster (about 1 second to fully charge a 580exII, compared to 2 seconds with NiMh).

But otherwise, it's pretty similar to what I bring, give or take.

LOL I will probably be at 400iso f4-6.3 1/200 inside or 800iso if needed. I have learned that in a wedding you need to be at least 1/160-1/250 to remove camera shake. With my camera 800 ISO looks like 6400iso on modern cameras. My camera is 7 years old. I probably wont even use the akilines. I have 6 sets or rechargeable NiMh bats. I will use those first.

I would never put NiZn's in any of my flashes havent you heard they fry flashes?

Drink less caffine and you'll have less camera shake :P

Seriously though, 1/160th-1/250th is pretty fast...I'm usually around 1/80th. At ISO400 and f4+, I would think your flash would be providing most of the light, making your shutter speed pretty irrelevant. At your settings, I'm suprised you're getting much ambient light at all.

Typically, I'm at f2.8 at 1/80th, usually ISO800-1600 with flash, Auto ISO without. Varies by room size and setting, of course.

But like I said, style varies. I find the more weddings I do, the more ambient lighting I pull in.

On a side note, one of the weddings I shot recently was in a big, shiny white tent. It was like having a gigantic reflector all around me...best lighting ever.
