Photographer for online jewelery store - Markham / York Region Graphic designer Jobs - Kijiji Markham / York Region Canada.

$3 an item????? So, you travel there and set up, snap, lets say 10 products an hour for 7 hours, tear down and drive home. That's 2 weeks of work before you even start post processing. Now lets say you can process 5 images an hour.... that's 4 weeks of work before you submit them. 6 weeks of work 9 hours a day, 270 hours for $1800 = $6.66/hr before paying for your gas, wear & tear on vehicle, insurance, camera deprecation, business insurance etc. Even if you are twice as fast as I have estimated, you are still $13.33/hr.

Not to mention they need the images in 3 weeks, so your gonna need to put in 18 hour days to get the job done.

Oh, and you get the honor of turning over absolute rights.

Sorry, I guess it was just my turn to rant, but for some weird reason that one stuck under my craw. I know I should laugh and move on.......

I don't think it's quite as bad as that. And because it's jewelry I would guess each product would need ~3 images (like in their add) so the total would be more around $5400. Additionally, it's a very controlled setting...A light table/box setup. Post work could be nothing more than batch/crop resizing. It would take an assistant and very good organization to get it done in a timely manner. I wouldn't care about the rights to a product shot. You might be able to make about $2k in 2 weeks.

That said, it sure doesn't sound like fun.

I guess you are right about not doing any editing at that price. Those images in the ad have been touched up, as it does not show any flaws in the gold which are usually present. The wax used to stand the ring up usually needs to be removed in post, because I can never get the damn thing to stand up with so little wax it does not show in the image.

The prep while easy, is still a pain in the ass, cause you gotta drip wax and get each item to stand at attention. It is not really a switch, click sorta proposition.

I did suggest they are asking people to work below minimum wage and within a time frame that was unrealistic. Snarky, no, but I think I did use the word delusional.

Have you ever tried tack putty instead of wax? Seems like it would work better....not that I would know.

Not a bad idea, might work easier, I will have to try it next time. You would still have putty oozing out below a thin band like a ladies ring I would imagine. I can't see shooting jewelery with out a few minutes of post on each item.
