Default Client wants RAW files

Hi everyone.
I've been asked by a client to quote for a job, photographing printing machinery for a brochure. They've stated that they want the RAW files to work with. I've never been asked this before and am uncomfortable about giving up some of my creative licence as well as possibly losing some income that I might be charging them for editing, and want some advice.

I figure I'll add a premium to the commission for this but wonder what else I should consider. They're a professional graphic design firm, so I'm not so worried they'll make a hash job of it. They've sent me an example of a brochure so show me what they want to do and basically they want to cut the items from the ( presumably industrial) background themselves. I just want to know if someone's been requested this before, and how they handled it. I think that I need to include this is the licence so it's clear what I'm allowing them to do and what I'm not allowing them to do.

Any advice? Thanks

make sure whatever you license them, make sure it's in a contract signed by both parties.

Not that it sounds like they would, but I'd just request they don't credit you for the photography. That way if they do do a poor job, they're not looking at your credit and going "oh... remind me not to hire __name__"

I don't think I'd worry about being credited. When was the last time you saw a corporate brochure with photo credits? I've never seen that. Sell them the raw files... For a price that makes your conscience happy.

I have to agree, whatever money you make from the prints and work you normally do, just charge them that for the files. If they think the price is to high, just walk away.

Thanks for the advice people, I'll quote the same or slightly higher than I normally would.

I agree, charge more. If I ever gave out RAW files I would do so with my edited JPGs, not so relevant in your case, but at least that way after they struggle to open RAW files in mspaint, they wonder why yours look so different and realise it can't be as easy as they first thought :P
