Default Domain Name

Where is the best place to register a domain name and get web hosting?

The best places are debatable, but it can be a good idea to use different vendors for your domain name and hosting. That way a squabble with one doesn't cost you both.

Network Solutions is one of the original domain name providers and I have all of my domains registered with them. I do not host with them so I can't speak to that part of their business. But I think the "best" hosting company has a lot to do with the services you want. Just want server space to build your own website? Pre-built templates? Full Service website and blog?

I use Domain Names, Web Hosting and SSL Certificates - Go Daddy, and love them... I got about 10 domains with them :-D

Also if you buy a domain you get free web hosting included... $10 a year... the free hosting isn't the best, but I upgraded for $120 for 3 years worth of a deluxe package.

Thanks for the info. I don't want it for a business now, but I see so many people saying their name is already taken I thought perhaps I should claim mine while it is still available and just use it to showcase my photography until I decide when/if I want to make a business out of it.

I use go daddy for the domain name and zenfolio for everything else. So far it's worked well--we'll see what happens when it's time to renew.

I got the domain through Godaddy but host my main site through BlueHost and have been very happy with them mostly b/c of the customer service.
