Default How do you define Tear Sheets?

(I put it in this section forum because tear sheets are pretty much an advertisement of your business and work.)

What do you guys consider a "tear sheet"? For me, I don't really see digital/online only publications as a real tear sheet than a print publication. Tell me how you define "tear sheet."

Tear sheets are copies of your images that are published either in print or the WWW. Just go to web page and print a copy.

I know what it means, but I wanted to know how its defined by different people on what is a tear sheet. But I guess tear sheet today is including online/digital publications even though if you place it on a online publication that has zero value, I just don't see any value in that to be considered a tear sheet. A tear sheet I would assume would be something that has a real value that your work was published on a printed material like Maxim or FHM, etc... Would my business cards be considered a tear sheet? I don't think so. That's why I am asking on how most people would define the real meaning of what is a tear sheet.

A tear sheet is proof of production.

Yes, your business card can be a tear sheet. Your printer will use it to show you that they have in fact printed your business cards.

Thank You, that makes more sense, so when I models ask me for guarantee tear sheet all I need to do is ask them specifically what kind of tear sheets they're looking for, correct?

Models want tear sheets for their own portfolios, to prove that they have done what they say they have done.

Decent/ professional models will always want to see tear sheets BEFORE working to be sure that the person promising work is who they say they are. As a newbie in the glamour game, your hardest thing is going to be getting published tear sheets. Once you do, your credibility sky rockets. (assuming the work is good)

In this game, the tear sheet is a non-negotiable.

A tear sheet is simply a page cut (or torn) from a publication as proof of publication of that photo/article.

Obviously in the digital world that can/could now include a screen shot of a web page to show the photo/article in use but as they can be easily faked then, IMO, they are not a "proper" tear sheet.

I would like to know how you can, or how a model can think that you can, "guarantee" a tear sheet. Even if you are working on a specific commission it does not guarantee publication.
I have had many commissioned shoots which have never been published for some reason or another.
