Default Small Publisher wants to publish some of my work...

for "full credit." And I'm assuming no cash... please give some tips how to react, I did respond asking question what would they like to offer me besides "full credit" though. How would you guys handle this as your first offer from a pub, and from a small pub?

I let them use it, I thought it was cool they wanted it and it was a small literary magazine. They didn't even pay the writers. I got 5 free copies of the magazine, though.

"full credit" doesn't pay the bils! it's a "small" publisher, publishing how many pieces?,I guarantee that they make money from each piece published, why shouldn't you? it is after all your work.

I agree with BuddhaPi. Even a token $20 will pay for water for two weeks.

If the publication sells ad space, they can afford to pay you.

ya know... for someone who wants to be a boss making a conglomerate photo studio with tons of photogs under you... you seem to ask a lot of basic questions.

Newspapers only offer credit and they screwed me over. Now I offer them for a price or they don't get them.

I submitted work to a magazine to be published. The chose a piece, contacted me saying they wanted to use it and paid me £80 for the privilage/priveilage/privalige.... I think the smaller people just try and get away with it.

There's a time and place for credit - and it needs to be mutually beneficial. I often ask wedding photographers for some free copies of my photo booth if they happen to have any. In return, I include them in the write up and link to their site. Being wedding specific, it's beneficial for themm

The magazine is getting your photo to enhance their product. How many of their readers are going to be hiring you afterwards? If it's very local and target specific, it might be worth it.

Plus, it's always nice to see your work out there. I'd still let the first go free

Ask them if you can use that "full credit" at the grocery store.

I made an offer, few printed copies, and once they make a net profit of $100 I make a royalty of $.05 per print issue, and if they're a non-profit all I need is the few printed copies... sound fair?

I forgot to mention this is my first offer too, and if I get published it will be my first tear sheet.

Impossible to say without knowing their circulation numbers.
