Hello all,
can anyone help me out, i m bit confused here. I want to license/copyright my images under Creative Commons. Under which license should I copyright my images? If I want to let others use the image for non-commercial purpose, free of charge but shud have my mention. And with a charge for commercial purposes. Also I want to know, if I can upload the same CC photo to another website with the same right applicable, or it will be just to my Flickr account? On second thoughts, if I want to post a particular snap on a stock website, then can that snap have same right as creative commons? Can i publish this snap elsewhere to show my work? Thanks in advance. |

The CC Licence you want is Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC), You must be given credit and they aren't allowed to use the photo for commercial purposes under the creative commons licence (i.e. if they do want to use it commercially they will have to buy a licence from you) this by the way allows people to create derivative works based on your original.
You will have to make sure that the CC licence is stated everywhere you have the photo available for download., although in most websites photographs are presumed to have a full copyright unless stated otherwise. Almost all places you can upload photos will ask you if there is a CC licence, and even if they don't have a specific facility to state which CC licence it is, you can simply state this yourself in the description, and link to the CC website for good measure. If you upload the image to a stock photography site then as you retain the copyright, you retain the right to use a CC licence... as stock sites are for commercially sold licences the world of CC and the world of commercial licences shouldn't cross, but it's worth checking the fine print of your stock website in case there is something in there that would conflict with the CC licences (they may for example require that the photograph isn't freely available elsewhere, even for non-commercial use) |
