Default Picking and Presenting your Portfolio...

Just curious about others here on the board about how they pick their shots for portfolio and present them?
I am in the process of building my portfolio and though I have many very good shots, Im having trouble figuring out what I should put into that select group and what to leave out. Im assuming you would only want 1-3 examples of certain styles and poses, am I correct in this thinking?
Also, what do you use to hold and present your portfolio? Anyone have great success with websites or have suggestions for good free sites to present on?
Thanks in advance for any help in the matter!

That is a very good question. I am interested in that too. Also I would like to know if you have different portfolios for different occasions. For example, one for if you do weddings, one for if you do portraits or travel photography etc.

I'm of the opinion that you should have a sampler portfolio so that people can get an idea of everything that you can do. There will always be things that they'll see and want.

You should also have more specific portfolios. How you break those up depends on a lot of things. For example, if it was me trying to get myself work as a sports photographer I might have seperate portfolios for each sport.

I don't have a permanent portfolio anymore. Any time I need one, I build a new one for whoever wants to see it. If I want an overall one, I just pick (what I think) are the best shots of each category I want to present.
