Default Any thoughts on this job?

OK, I have just had an exchange re my bid for this job.

Just for interests sake what are others thoughts on the time it would take and what you would quote for the job.

Hello,
We're looking for a photographer to visit all our care services across the West Midlands (approx 8) and take professional photos of our staff for use on our website and in printed materials.

At the same time we'd also like the photographer to photograph the interior and exterior of each of the care homes, to make them look as good as possible. The various sites can be visited in 2 days.

Please get in touch with links to previous work/portfolios and experience.

*EDIT*

The sites are located in the following areas:
- 4 in South Birmingham
- 2 in North Solihull
- 1 in Sandwell
- 1 in Droitwich

The number of staff to be photographed at each site range from approx. 35 at our Head Office (Birmingham) to up to three people at each of the other sites.

If it's sunny photos can be taken outside in the grounds, but obviously the weather is unpredictable and the photographer will need to have a plan in case of rain. The lighting inside most of the buildings is poor.

Other shots we need will be of the lounges, maybe a bedroom or two, and the exterior (front and back) of each home.

We have the skills in-house to edit/colour correct/retouch as required.

They gave a budget for the job which I won't mention here.

Anyone want to give me their bids for the job??

Yup, that is one of the things I pointed out to them.
Although the areas they are in are only a few miles away from each other, they have certainly underestimated the time required.

Andy part of your message jumps out at me like a blazing neon sign:
"We have the skills in-house to edit/colour correct/retouch as required."..........really?

I would be careful about allowing any of this type of thing to happen to my work. If it was me I would be very clear that all post processing is done by you and only you, and bid the job accordingly.

I agree with the above and the amount of work to be completed in two days. I am not a pro so I cannot provide any input as to fee to be charged.

Yeah, that would be a "Hell to the No" in the contract for me.

That is not an issue for me. Many of the commercial jobs I do are like that where the shots then go to a designer and graphic artist for putting together into the final product or whatever, just the nature of the work I do.
Although for this one which is portraits and interior/exterior shots then I would do any of that work myself.

This job was just one which I saw and decided to put a bid in just to see what they came back with.

They supposedly had a fixed budget of £250-350 (about $400-600) and reckoned that portraits of about 50-60 people plus interior and exterior shots of 8 locations would take two days.
Note that figure is for the whole job not per day!

I know a number of other people pointed out to them that this was not realistic and reckoned the minimum would be 4 days and that their budget was ridiculous for that.

The reason for their low budget is "because we are a charity" and they came back saying "We've received several bids from professionals keen to help support a charity at or just above the amount we offered"

I am all for supporting charities and have done so with free shoots in the past but it is this sort of thing which really boils my p. Expecting 4 days work for less than a normal half days money is just silly.

Ya I would say that's at least 1000-2000$ job and needs 4 days. Seems like they are trying to take advantage. To me..

I once saw this conversation mentioned, here on DPS, I think. In a nutshell, it was:

Client: "But we're a non-profit organization!"
Photographer: "I'm not."

Just thought it was funny!

That was basically what I told them
