Hey all, it's been awhile since I've posted
So far I've been building my portfolio with just family. I've done a Senior session, an engagement session, a bridal shoot, and a wedding. Now I've got a portrait shoot this Sunday with my cousin's daughters and an extended cousin has asked me to do her Senior pictures. Now I've had a friend from church inquire about me taking pictures, and I took some pictures of the cousin who I did Senior pictures for. This was the first time a non-family member had asked for information, if I had a website etc. I explained that I didn't have an established business yet, but that I was building my portfolio and working on a website (My husband is a web designer and is going to help me out with that). So I told her to give me a call for specifics. Anyway, I was surprised at all of this inquiry without me even asking or trying to find people. And not just family, which I was expecting. Since I don't have a lot of shoots under my belt, I'm curious how I should do my website? I don't want my website done up with 50 pictures from 5 shoots...but is it reasonable to just do a 1page site for now with just 5 images like 1 from each shoot? Then as I get more shoots under my belt I can expand it to more pages and additional pictures. Thanks for reading

I'd add that it's best to keep all the shots in your portfolio relevant to the kind of work you wish to be considered for. So if you really want to be hired to do portraits, don't put travel or kids sports photos in there. Keep it focused and only your very best shots.
If you really want to get something running and off the ground quickly, you may want to consider the paid level (I think it's $50) at 500px.com. You get a pretty sweet looking portfolio on there with a contact page and multiple themes. You can also tie your domain name to the portfolio. It sets up in less than 10 minutes and looks very professional and does not use Flash so viewing it on mobile devices and iPads is not a limiting factor. Good luck.
