Default How many photos?

I need to update my website and make it more professional looking so I'd like to know how many photos are enough? Or too many? or not enough? I mainly shoot weddings but I do a variety of other special events (Kid shoots, find raisers, pets) So I'd like to create a site with a few different galleries but how many pictures should I put in each catagory? I don't want to put just my 2 best pet shots in one but 20 wedding shots in the other.
Any suggestions?
I guess I can just go through and look at others web sites to see what I like but I'd like your input.

No more than 10, no less than 4, per category, if you have more than 4 categories.

Assuming you stick to Weddings, Kids, Pets, Commercial, i'd say 12-15 per, MAX.

I'm horribly guilty of having too many in my portfolios.
Having gotten that out of the way.. I see it this way:
Keep it minimal in terms of how many sections/albums/albums you have. Only have sections/albums/albums of what you're trying to sell. Ie don't have macro section if you're trying to be a portrait photographer.

I'd say 10-20 max per section. 10 different images would probably be perfect. What I mean by different is from 10 different shoots (or of ten different subjects even if same shoot) as it'd show the client you don't have photos from just one or two shoots. Shows you can repeat the quality consistently.

The one exception to this rule I'd say are "Projects".. in a special or personal project you should include all that are relevant to that project.

Again, i'm a mighty big hypocrite as I don't follow these rules myself.. gotta get my albums under control..soon!

Normally, no less than ten per category. If you only have eight strong ones, then use them.
Editing process is critical................two or three weak photos will drag you down. If you tightly edit your portfolio, it'll be stronger.
