Default Labor Report on Photographers
The US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics compiles information about all of the different professions in the US and provides reports on the professions. This includes Photographers.

Here is a link to their report on photographers for those interested in the "state" of the profession, what the median income is for photographers, skill sets, etc.: Report on Photographers

Some interesting information if you can wade through it.
