I have 2 questions about shooting senior yearbook.

One senior wanted to book with me, but then found out the school requires them to use one specific photographer... has anyone else run into this?

Also, would you offer a discount to shoot twins?

I've seen that before...but that is only for the yearbook shot...all the rest for the Senior's announcements, friends and family etc you can do.

Discount for twins? Maybe, maybe not. for example maybe a session discount but up the minimum print order....

Just had a twin session. It was counted as 2 sessions with 2 required print collections. The mom spent $500 in sitting fees and $2237 on prints. We shot both sessions at once .. Shoot one while the other is changing outfits .. 6 outfits each. Mom loved it and was extremely happy with her purchase. What you do depends on what type of clients you want? I want clients who don't think twice about writing a check for almost $3000.

Schools do that because they get kickbacks from the photographers. Some schools will even go so far as to try to convince the kids that they have to go to the school photographer for EVERYTHING .. except for announcements they make you think you HAVE to get those from Jostens. LOL The thing is you can't legally force another american to purchase items from a business that you choose for them. (I don't know how it works outside the US) But here in the states the way schools get around this is normally by saying the yearbook image must be shot on THIS color background and the eyes must be THIS far from the top of the frame .. etc. If you force the issue they cannot stop a student from going to another photographer but that photographer will need to contact the yearbook staff and get the requirements and be able to produce them or else the image can then be rejected. ... If a senior wants us to do the yearbook shot and it needs to meet any special requirements they pay an additional sitting fee addon because I know they won't order prints from it.
