Hi everyone; I was just wondering if any of you had tried selling stock photos on your own site, and if so, have you had any luck with doing so? I've been experimenting with this on my own site, but I've only put the photos up for sale a couple of days ago, so I'm not sure yet how it's going to go.

Printroom.com offers something similar, sorta...
They're geared toward event photographers, so each 'member' gets their own 'store' (aka website) where you can sell your images. You can either have a different page for each event, set your own prices, and all orders are processed and delivered by Printroom, so "all you have to do is sit back and watch the cash roll in" (as if it's ever that easy) But I think it would be just as useful in selling stock images.

thanks Liz, I'm going to check that site out right now! Sounds pretty interesting. Even if it doesn't help me with the stock sales, it'll be great for stuff like when my coworkers ask me to take family portraits for them (carry a fancy dslr around with you and that's bound to happen sooner or later!)

I think part of the power of Getty, Corbis and the microstock sites is that they provides massive numbers of images and easy searching and account management for designers.
Sort of like how you might go to Craigslist or eBay to buy something used, but you might not just go looking around the Internet at individual sites. Of course, if you have a name or a reputation, you may have more luck.
