He told them that they can purchase prints from Zenfolio/smugmug/etc after they get the free 8x10. They could have asked how much they typically cost on the site. Since they know they are on a website they should know they would be more than .14 cents for a 4x6 or .79 for a 5x7.
I don't know if they have an issue with his pricing structure or not. With that said you can charge as much as you think is reasonable. Question: Do many of you pros give pricing sheets to your clients before the shoot?

I support Jim Poor's approach noted above as I'm not a big fan of selling photos on disk. If you decide to sell the couple the disk at a low price you'll be setting a bad precedent if they do decide to hire you for their wedding. Remember, they are paying for your skill and knowledge as a photographer, and for the investment you've made in equipment, schooling, and training. If they can't understand that you're better off to let them move on to some budget photographer..these are NOT the type of customers you want in your business going forward.

Theres nothing wrong with giving a dics if images, provided the price is right.
Afterall.. that's what most people really want.... I simply work the price of the image into an "all up" fee they pay which I tell them includes the shoot and the disc. I get money, dont have to p*ss around with ordering, checking, packaging and then shipping Prints. I just burn them on one of my custom printed DVD's drop it in anelegant looking DVD tin, and we both get what we want. I did the prints only thing for a while and i hated it, and I don't have time to screw around with " two 4x6" and a 5x7" " crap ....essentially I market myself as "heres a package including everything at one reasonable price, no hidden costs" $390 for a disc and 1 hour shoot seems reasonable.... dotcha think? My clients seem to..
