Thanks, Brian. We'll see what happens. At least people are calling me. Baby steps and all that!

Mad, make sure you call your contact back after the specified date of delivery on their inquiry. Just a courtesy call to ask them how their shots turned out and if they could give you some feedback on the overall. They may just tell you that the images were unusable and could you maybe do the deal? Never know?

They never specified a delivery date, however, I will contact them at some point and ask. Good idea.

Yes, and did you see the outcome? I quoted 3000 for the shoot plus 1.5 for the licensing. They wanted to pay $500. No deal.

$500 actually sounds pretty reasonable to me, especially for someone who hasn't done it before.

It'll take you less than a day for the entire shoot, including drive time and photo processing. $500, minus a bit for gas...sounds reasonable to me for a days worth of work.

I think photographers get too hung up on licensing, and how the photo will be used. It's not like you had a unique photo that they wanted, and no one in the world had a similar photo. You were asked to take a photo that ANYONE in your area could have taken. While the quality of the photos might not be as good as yours, the price difference between $500 and $4,500 is quite a bit.

And that fact that you haven't done this before...you just gave up the opportunity to expand into this area. I never pass up an opportunity to venture into another branch of photography, even if the pay is low. The experience gained is priceless, and helps to negotiate future prices.

To each his own. As for me, I do not give away my skill and talent for free no matter what the other man chooses to do with his. In your way of thinking there is no difference between a snapshot and a well designed image. Makes perfect sense to "photoboothguy"... Meh, indeed.

In NYC, you can buy a pizza for $1000. I have no doubt it is a good pizza. But for $20 in NYC, you can get one of the best pizzas in the world from any number of places. Is the $1000 pizza better than the $20?

Good luck trying to sell your $1000 pizza, especially with no pizza making experience.

You've made my point, thank you.
