Default Lightroom Student Edition upgrade?

Is there an 'upgrade' for the Student Edition of Lightroom? I bought the student edition about a year ago, and now that I'm wanting to do photography professionally in the next few months, I'm wondering how to go about getting the correct license. Do I have to rebuy the whole program?

Just curious

I'm pretty sure you just rebuy it -- at the discount they give you it's pretty good as it is.

That's how it is with the Creative Suite, I know (I'm still stuck on CS2... :'( )

As far as I know, you can't upgrade student editions.

There have been some great deal on LR lately though. Check B&H. I think one of the Kelby clan had something up about discounts too.

I think it still comes out about the same, really. The student version's, what, $100? You'd have paid at least that for the upgrade anyway. I just wish my computer could run Lightroom 3 decently...I need to upgrade. :'(

Keep an eye on SlickDeals and places like that; I've seen it pop up now and again for really good prices.

What do you mean the correct license? There's nothing in the license agreement that prevents you from using the student edition for professional work. As long as you have a valid license for the software you can use it however you wish. The only limitations are that you can't resell it, and there are no upgrades available (you have to buy another when you want to upgrade, which is fine if you're still eligible for the student version).

Interesting, you seem to be correct!

Yes. You may purchase a Student and Teacher Edition for personal as well as commercial use."

When I bought my copy of CS2, there was a specific stipulation in the license against commercial use, I wonder if it's just Lightroom that allows it, or if that's changed for all student editions of Adobe software now?

I thought we were discussing an upgrade to the newest version here?

I wasn't entirely sure. The OP said she was looking to get the "correct license", so I assumed she was thinking she needed something other than the student version for professional work, which is why I offered that bit of information.

Yeah, they took it out at some point. I emailed Adobe directly when someone here a couple of years ago pointed out that the license no longer had the language limiting use of student editions. They confirmed it, and I kept the email, but it seems they now have it spelled out right on their website.
