Default Starting out for free

So, Im starting off all free, probably for at least a year.

Anyway, here is my idea for it:

- When people (tourists) ask for people to hold their camera and take their shot, instead I will use my own camera and take a bunch of pictures of them in different poses. Then I will give them my card and get their email. Afterwards, I will edit their photos and send them to them by email, with a small watermark on it to show where they got it. Watermark can be removed if requested for free.

- Also doing the $2 idea from Flickr, where I will pay someone $2 if I really like something about them, and take their portrait.

Gotta start somewhere! And for free, but donations are gladly accepted.

Currently working on:

- Buying a domain name
- Printing business cards (already ordered them)
- Coding up my site using strict html-only.
- Ask friends if I can take their picture.

Good start?

Took a quick look at your flikr. First it's "CIWS" not "CWIS."

Next, what on earth is this doing in there: USS John Hall | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Advice? Don't. You're not ready.

Yeah, autocorrect got me there, and that is what happens when you are on a tour and can't stop for pics. Blurry shot.

If you are planning sooner of later on trying photography as a business you need to display your very best work for possible future clients to see.

Only show your best work and especially not technical failures, unless it is to illustrate a problem for a tutorial etc.

Of course. I'm not using that Flickr account for business use, its just for family and friends and such. I host my own site for professional needs.

In our defense, you list your flickr as your gallery and didn't post a link to your "own site for professional needs" so what are we supposed to comment on?
Care to share your other site link?

That, combined with your post about not liking flash leads me to believe you're not ready.
Plus thinking the T3i is "for the really high quality stuff" is another indicator.

A: If you had read my first post, you would have seen that I do not intend to open a business, rather just do it for fun and get a little scratch for new gear. Not high-paying gigs. I'm more in the market for some car meets or a small business in need of pics for their website. That should be fine for me.

B: T3i has more MP and is a DSLR, my camera is not. I don't have a lot of money to spare on a DSLR right now.

C: Photography is an art. Some people like using pastels, others oils. I choose not to use flash or follow the rules of thirds all of the time. I'd rather have fun and enjoy photography than make it a chore and a hassle to take a picture.

But thanks to all, the feedback really helps.
