Default Wedding Reception Cards... Good Idea?

So, I just thought about this and I wanted to know what you thought. I just did an engagement shoot for a couple and their wedding is in July. The thought crossed my mind about printing one of their engagement photos on a reception card. The idea is to have a stack of cards somewhere at the reception that everyone can take with them. If I did this... how could I work in my logo or information (not obtrusive) that may generate some work at the same time?

Good idea or bad?

Some people do it. Personally I think it's tacky.

If I were going to do it, I'd work up a bunch of Moo Mini's, which at least are novel and fun.

If you post proofs on line and the b&g don't want it password protected, then you could hand out your card so the guests can know where to go and look for them. You are merely helping, not trying to drum up business.

I did this at my first wedding so people would know where to go.. I think 50+ cards were taken. I got absolutely no business from them..

Yeah, I'm going back and forth on it. I don't want to be tacky, but I also want to maximize the potential of 400 attendants. I'm just starting so I need all the jobs I can get!

I was thinking of just having a few press cards printed with the couples engagement shots on the front, then a small logo and where they can go to order shots of the days event on the back.

The other problem... I don't know where to put them at the wedding either. Hmm... I wont have time to constantly hand them out if people ask. I need to focus on the event!

Put them on the tables

I've been handing out branded keyrings recently, they've gone down really well - mind you I do mine on the spot and it has their photo in so it might not work for you :P

If you should decide to do somethng like this please please check with the bride and groom first. I know several couples who have been very offended for reasons such as: they don't want their wedding to be used for the photographer's advertisement purposes, they are paying the photographer to take pictures not to market themselves and many couples would like to see the proofs before their guests are able to view them. When my daughter got married the photographer asked us ahead of time (which I greatly appreciated) if it was okay for her to hand out cards like this and my daughter told her no but offered to send the cards with her thank you notes. The photographer loved the idea. The cards were very cute, Allison used one of the photos for her "thank-you cards" and then the photographer's card had a note that read something like "to view more of our wedding photos please visit website..." You could suggest something like this if the bride and groom would rather not have them at the wedding/reception.

Personally I'd be quite shocked and offended if someone kicked off at a small stack of cards on a signing in table or the like.
