Default New Web Design Critique Needed

I have made my site very simple and plain. My thoughts were to have the focus on the images, not on the web site. I am starting to think maybe I went a little to plain.

I have messed around and come up with a different look and I wanted some feedback. Which does everyone prefer? If you have other points to add, I am also all ears (actually, I guess eyes)

The images in the portfolio part of the new site are just place holders, and will be my real images if I make it go live.

Current site: Captures by McQuillin
Different: Captures by McQuillin

I like the original better...that one big assed cellphone on the new contact page!

Yeah, I prefer the original. I don't think it is too simple. That one photo in the slide show is awesome though, bride groom funny looking faces. Hysterical!! Great capture!

I prefer the new one. I think the darker border frames it better and like the way you've compacted all the navigation on the left hand side.

Just one thing though, I think your slideshow changes too quickly, it's kind of distracting because it isn't a subtle fade either, every few seconds it's like 'BAM!'. I would have at least 10 seconds between photos and if possible a fading effect between them.

Oh, and I love the photo with the broken down car

I threw the phone in as a bit of a joke.... but I might keep the retro look. At least I don't need to be constantly updating it.

I lack the skills to figure this one out. It fades nicely on IE, but firefox or chrome etc, it is just switch, switch. I could lengthen the time, but I really need to figure out how to fade in the other browsers.

Thanks for the feedback (and kind words) so far guys.

your script is calling: var ie=document.all - firefox does not support detection of document.all, thats an IE thing.

if your revamping, it might be a good time to look into jquery as opposed to coffeescript

On the new one through firefox, the images cover the links and the lonks don't work. It took a while for the images to get to full size (slower dsl connection I suppose) so they would change before coming to full size. Anyway those are probably technical settings that can be changed. I did like the old site. it is clean and easy to navigate. I don't have a data phone but someone should see how it looks on a driod or iphone too...
