Default looking for general critique on new portfolio on SmugMug

hello fellow DPSers,

just started a trial on SmugMug and looking for suggestions, words of confidence, etc on what Ive put up so far on my account.

i go in and out of phases deciding whether or not i can actually sell anything i take. far from professional, some have been edited, some havent. think i have a decent eye, and manage to get a few good shots in here and there. i have a strong preference for travel photography so that is what im trying to focus on right now.

thanks in advance for any advice/tips!

Hi

I only had a quick look, i liked the photos, some were good, some i thought were oddly framed, like the tiles of old jeruselam, but the only one that grabbed me was the photo of the arc de triupmhe. It was different from any other photos of the arc i had seen. The gargoyle was different too. All the others were just like other travel photos i have seen.

That would be my main critisicm, put your work with a bunch of others and it wouldnt stand out, but you can work on that. Other wise nice eye.

Thanks for the comments. I would agree with what you said in the fact that visiting new places sometimes I feel so rushed and don't always get the shots I'm trying to and wind up feeling somewhat generic in a group of the same.

Still have a ton of photos to sort through, will see what else I can find.

I think there are a few very strong shots in there! Stick with the travel photography, I can tell you have an eye for it and can make great images. It takes time to make it but if you keep with it you can definitely sell some images.

There are too many shots though in your portfolio. Try narrowing it down quite a bit to only your absolute best. People won't want to wade through 100 images to find one that they would like to buy. Have several friends go through and pick their favorites and that will really help you narrow it down. Sometimes we hold on to images that aren't that great for some reason or another that warps our perspective.

Here's an article I wrote with tips for Creating a great portfolio
