Default Locations

In my local area, there are about 8 local parks and 3 downtown urban/scenic type areas for outdoor photos.....those are my options unless I start begging for access to private properties. Recently, I got a little slack from another photographer for using one of these locations. Apparently she "gave me" the idea for the location. Actually, the client requested that we use this particular location. It is public property and I did know about the area all on my own. Now it is not a big deal. I realise that the other photographer is feeling threatened and/or jealous. I do not plan to defend my actions in any way because frankly, it is not really worth my time to getting into a pissing match with this person. However, I have a feeling that this may come up again in the future, given that there is a limit on how many public locations that photoshoots can be done in this area.
So how do you all handle these types of situations? Do you just ignore the other people and do your own thing....that is what I am trying to do? Or do you confront the person and try to set them straight? I am generally not a confrontation type person, but I feel that I am probably going to have to deal with this head on at some point. Public/cummunity locations are fair game for anyone, IMO and it does not equate to copying. My photos are completely different than hers in every possible way except for the location.

Ignore and do your own thing! Don't worry about where the other photographers shoot.

I would tend to laugh it off, all the while it would probably eat me up inside, since I am the same way and tend to avoid confrontation. But, like you said, there will probably come a time where it could come to a head. But, I would keep on keepin on. It is public property, and many people see it. YOUR CLIENT REQUESTED IT. This should be brought up to this other person if it comes down to it. Surely this other photographer doesn't think that he/she was the only one to ever spot it? It seems to me that there is some grabbing at straws here.
Let the work speak for itself. Usually when people start throwing blind punches, it comes from jealousy. Take it as a compliment!

If this photographer gives you any grief inform them and it's a public park open to....well the public!

difuse by acknowledging that is is a great location.
ie:
"you know I've been using this spot for years, if it wasn't for me no one would even know this place existed"

"yes, it is a fantastic location"

Hmm .. so, if a client of mine would like me to take pics in Times Square, I should refuse just because millions of people have took pics of it? That's ludicrous. As long as you're allowed to take pictures there, I don't see their problem. Well, I see it, but I shouldn't say the words that come to my mind in this case

Just do your magic and ignore the haters. The moment you "rise" as a professional, you'll have people to try bring you down.
