Default Who pays?

I am going to be shooting photos of a local DJ-he has an idea of the location already, and I am going to contact the business owner to see if it's available. If the business charges to rent the space for a couple of hours, who incurs that charge, me or the client?

Thanks,
Sonya

What does your contract say?

If your contract allows you to bill for expenses, the go ahead and pay it and invoice the client for it. If your contract is a flat fee, based on using your studio or a free space, then you'll need to amend the contract to allow you to bill the client, or eat the cost.

Client gets paid by bar, you bill the client, if necessary for all expenses. Mileage, entry fees, or whatever. I've never heard of a bar renting space.

All questions about who pays for what should be answered in your contract before you start renting, buying, or otherwise paying for anything.

Client pays.
Especially in a case where they have suggested a location which may charge.

Quite simply if you have expenses incurred to do the shoot then they should be charged back to the client. Either as specifics or as "expenses". Most of the time they will want these detailed.

Your contract should state that the client is responsible for or will be billed for any location expenses incurred.

The location is not a bar, it's just a local business, but that is immaterial. Thank you all again..there seems to be a consensus.
