I think it is important to keep on top of things and find a way to work with how modern tech is used. I think it's a bad idea to block everything, stop people copying everything - look what happened to the music industry, they were so adament that the music was theirs and not to be copied, they've forced themselves out of the market and really hurt the industry. I'm certainly not saying we shouldn't protect our work or try and reduce copyright infringement but clients/customers copying our photos is not going away and we need to find ways to make it work for us.
I have a photobooth that I take to events, weddings, parties etc. Aside from the "OMFG that's so cool" from the girls and "that's a REALLY good idea" from the businessmen, the most common phrase I hear between clients is "no don't worry, I'll take it home and scan it". To work with this all of my prints come out with a title tag on the top and a URL on the bottom. But it's easy to chop out. So I also put them online on facebook. So when I hear them say "I'll go home and scan it", I tell them not to bother because if they check the facebook page, they will be on there (title and URL intact of course). Do any of you have ideas or methods you use or think might be useful to work WITH copying images rather than against?

...saying that, I took a photo of my girlfriend in Iceland this week, batch watermarked and uploaded them to facebook and she cropped out the watermark for her profile picture lol - can't win them all I guess :P

Biomech:
If you're packaging these images for people, then include a notice in the packaging about copyright. That's really all you can do.

With the ones I describe above it's really a case of I turn up at a wedding, setup my booth, the guests go in, prints come out, there's not so much one on one as it were - often 100-200 people. It's fine with this setup, the coverage is a fixed rate pre-paid. Portrait shoots would be a little different

That's not what bothers me. What bothers me is when people copy without giving you credit. I have a friend that has a few pictures on her facebook that people compliment her on. I've had to reply with some comment that lets them know I took the picture. A little catty, but still. lol

Ooooh, yeah that would be catty, but they are of her little girl and I took them for her. I just want people to know that I took them. I'm sure her other friends can tell she didn't take them, but I still gotta make sure. |

well you could ask that she remove them and instead link them from your page, and have them on your page with a watermark...
