Default Watermarking

Where do you place your watermark?

Are they white with a 50% / light opacity or are they those tranparent/ outline type of watermark?

Do you include the "C" for copyright before your photography name?

I either place it at the bottom-right or dead center, depending partly on whether I'm getting paid up-front or shooting on spec. In the latter case I usually place it through the middle to discourage copying (makes it slightly harder to remove the watermark, though certainly not impossible). My watermark includes the copyright symbol, my name and web site. I created it as a transparent PNG and apply it either automatically in Zenfolio or manually in Lightroom. My Zenfolio watermarks are white and at 80% opacity.

As with most things, it depends.

Web proofs for dog sports have both a permanent signature on the image itself and a watermark overlay that is really ugly.

Portraits are proofed in person more and more so they have nothing but the signature.

Portraits that in online proofing galleries are marked just like the dog sport photos.

Images from either group that are online for "show&tell" are marked less intrusively, usually with just the signature.
