Default How would you release Copyright?

Ok I am not a pro, don't do this for a living. I have offered to do portrait sessions for several friends of mine. I want to just give them CDs of the pics to print themselves. The thing is I have had people at photo labs question me when I have tried to print pics I took of Granddaughter, I don't want my friends to get hassled about printing their pics. Is there something I can give them to take with the CD,or can I just write copyright released on the CD?

If you are going to give your friends a disc, you DO NOT want to release the copyright. What you do is allow Usage Rights, or Printing Rights, whatever you want to call it, but you do not want to use the term "release of copyright". See This Thread

You can simply create a PDF file to embed on your disc that states the holder of the CD has the right to make prints from the files. Add it as the last file before you burn the disc, done deal.

Hopefully some of the other's will come along and maybe phrase this better for you, and correct me if I've misdirected.

Ok is there somewhere I can find a standard form or do I need to make one up on my own?

Google "walmart photo release", and you'll find an example of the form. Copy and paste the language into word and modify it to fit your needs. Or if they are going to walmart just print it and give it to them.

The question should be "WHY would you release copyright"

It is a print release form or a usage license you need NOT a copyright release form.
I use proper commercial usage licensing but I just had a very quick look on line and here are some examples of print forms from Flickr users

Thank you! That is very helpful. I guess I was confused and thought I had to release copyright for them to be able to print them. Like I said I don't do this for a living. Live and Learn.

Sorry I just thought of another question. I would like to recommend to them that they have them print through a better lab like mpix or such, instead of walmart or the pharmacy, will they be able to go through one of the online labs if I give them a release form?
