I did a session of a little girl a few weeks ago, and the mom has bought some prints, but she would also like some small digital files to email to relatives overseas, as well as post on her online blog. These would be web-sized (500px on the longest size), and low-quality - she wouldn't be able to print any of these files.
I'm not sure what to charge for that? I'm thinking like $5 per image? I mean, it wouldn't be all that difficult for her to just scan the prints she's already bought...

It would be simple to scan the prints, but if you are doing more than a couple it really gets to be a pain, and she might not have a scanner (although when my scanner was broken; a camera, a piece of glass from a picture frame, and a tripod can give you an image that looks as good as a scanner).
On the other hand, if you sell her a cheap cd containing a bunch of images, instead of charging by the pose, you could probably batch convert and burn everything in a few minutes. I'd price it for you area.... You're going to get a bunch of opinions, all uninformed. What did she spend with you already? If she only spent 200$ with you, you're not getting another 75$ for all the pics on cd, but if she spent 700$, it may be more likely. For ten small low res images, you might be lucky to get 30$ before she just decides to call a tech nerd friend with a scanner. You might even be able to just email them to her, and get it done quickly. |

Don't quote me but i could swear I just read something along the same lines here a few days ago and now I cannot find it
But I think the general agreement for a file of the size you are talking was that $5 seemed pretty fair. If I can find that thread I will come back and post the link!2 minutes later..... ![]() I actually found it: Here Last edited by mshockley; 02-27-2011 at 03:27 AM. |

I don't directly charge retail clients for watermarked, web size photos. Those are included with my minimum package.
Commecial clients pay $50 for 3 months of web use of photos over 400 px ($35 up to 400 px), max web size is 600 px.

![]() I was thinking I would provide an image, as Jim said, with every print they buy, but should that web sized image be watermarked or no?

I was wondering the same thing in my thread (HI everyone!) but didn't want to tack on a second question. I'll watch this thread!

But if they had a print they could just scan it anyway right?
