I'm so excited! After several months of submitting photos to Alamy, I finally made my first sale yesterday! The photo was licensed for use in a textbook, therefore editorial, and a model release was not required. I'm very glad I read this article on editorial stock photography, which was what convinced me to give it a go.
My Alamy stock library is here. I expect I will be adding a lot more to it soon!

You can re-sell photos you took for your clients too, as long you didn't sign over all the rights to them...

Thanks for the recommendation. I've done Dreamstime, iStock, and Shutterstock, and have decent success. Nothing fabulous, but enough to buy a pretty nice lens (Canon 70-200 f2.8 II) after a year of sales.
I'll give Alamy a shot and see what develops. |

Frame your shots so there is room for advertisers to add sales copy and graphics. Advertising use pays better than editorial use.

ETA: Of course that's also a valid point for the photos that don't have people or private property in them and therefore don't need releases...
