Default Been asked to take some photos for a press release - tips needed

Just wondering if anyone had an experience with PR photography?

I think the client just wants the usual head shots really but i'm keen to try a few other types of shots too and be a bit more creative if possible.

Has anyone got any tips for taking PR pics and giving my pics a bit of an edge over the standard types of shots usually associated with this?

Hi,

Its just a small piece about the company itself, its not a big publication or anything... more a mini profile on the company itself.

I'm probably going to get more work for them though in the future so other shoots might be for larger scale publications.

They are a Marketing company so its hard to display their products in any PR shots, and I think they want to be seen as "serious" business people rather than anything fun and quirky.

For most PR you want to include the following in your shot:

Who
Why
What
When
Where

If you can. So basically get things together, the people some of their marketing material like brochures or leflets that they might have made, then make sure the background is relevant - maybe outside the building with the company name behind them.

If it's just shots for their broachures and website, go for "action" shots. So them at work doing what they do.

Thanks, I ended up just workign with them to find out what type of thing they wanted. They seemed really happy with the results and a couple of the pics made it in to their brochure.

That's pretty exciting! You should get a copy of the brochure for your portfolio!

Yeah I have done that, the picture also ended up on the front page of the Jobs section in the local paper. It will have been seen by over 200,000 people as its got a really big circulation in my area I made sure I kept a copy of that too.

They also used another picture I took in their e-bullitin and i've been asked to do another shoot for them this week for their new Marketing campaign.

I'm pretty happy with how things have worked out... its great for my portfolio, and also a real confidence boost.

Hi,

Unfortunaetly not at the moment as my PC died on me!

The battery is faulty... worked ok when plugged in to the mains until the power chord also developed a fault. It was an extremely frustrating experience doing the post processing as it kept switching off and i'd have to start again!!! Luckily I managed to get them done and sent off... about 2 days later the thing completely died.

I've got a new lead coming next week, so will put the pics up then.
