Default Best time for Startup?

I am wondering if there is an advantage to starting and filing a business in one particular time of the year over another.
I am in Los Angeles, California.
Is there an advantage to starting a photography business in a certain month?
Are there times when one would not want to do a startup?
thanks in advance,
aaron

Default California

In California, S and C corporations are exempt from the minimum franchise tax in their first tax year. The minimum tax of $800 applies whether you made money or lost money. Since most corporations will operate on a calendar year unless you can justify a fiscal year that is not calendar based, that means that January first would be the best time to form a corporation in California.

Not going to incorporate? Then it depends on how clear your crystal ball is. Did you make a boatload of money this year and expect your income to decline next year? Spend like a madman on your startup expenses this year to reduce your taxable income this year, expecting business losses in 2011 to reduce or eliminate your tax burden next year. Bad year in 2010 but expect 2011 to be a cash-in year? Start up in 2011.

I speak as a small business owner and not an accountant or tax expert, and there may be various stimulus package effects that kick in this year and not next year, and I'm one of those people who always seem to find out about them after they're expired. So you should probably sit down with someone who you trust who does this for a living.

thank you.
responses much appreciated.
i agree, someone who specializes in accounting services would be the ideal person to consult. i thought that since photogs come from all differnt types of people and many from other unrelated fields, perhaps someone here has some expertise or experiences. it's possible there is an accountant who'd rather be holding a camera than calculator and now shoots weddings. or architecture. in california. and just did their incorporated. and, just perhaps they might be able to share an idea or two.

In addition to the tax considerations above, right now is a good time. Winter is a little slower for weddings and events for me, so this is a good time to get caught up on record-keeping, develop new workflow, work on those PS skills, and other housekeeping stuff.

That being said, there's no time like the present. just go for it, the sooner you get started the better.
