Default Another photographer uses Groupon

This popped up in my e-mail today. Photographer offering an hour session, 5 images, all for $59! Site looks really nice, so I hope she is prepared for an avalance of grouponers!

Groupon

Default Groupon

I have been looking into thisfor my day business....not photography and it seems to be a total lost litre kinda thing....not only does your offer have to be a jaw dropper...like this $59.00 one but groupon gets half the $59.00....too steep and really seems to only be a good idea in a business with high high profit margins...

Do what a guy here did... tried to recruit me to do the photos.... you get all money (a whopping $30) and 85% of profit from any prints ordered (which are not marked up huge i.e. $5 for an 8x10)...... He gets a client list. Guess what boat I didn't jump on board.

The only way I can see this working out for a photographer is if you can set a limit to the number of offers and you are willing to basically give up your entire sitting fee and have pricing in place for prints that will make up for it.

I sent them a link to this discussion and asked for them to share their experiences.

I saw an interview on Charlie Rose with the founder of Groupon. He claimed that the “groupons” get tons of new customers for the shops/services making the offer.
