Default Every heard of a Picture Party?

I just saw on a photographer website that she offers picture parties. Then I started googling because I was curious and there is a lot of this. Basically, it is like a Home Interiors or Mary Kay party. The hostess invites people, they come, the photographer does mini sessions with each family group/child/or whatever, posts them up on a website for purchase and the hostess gets credit towards free prints depending on what the other guest buy.
In one hand, I feel that this is an amazing idea. But on the other hand, I've been there done that with the home party circuit (AtHome America and Tupperware). It is a stressful and very difficult business to make successful. I have mixed feeling about it.
Any thoughts?

Maybe. I've been to one of those parties. The hostess got pictures and is still to this day blackmailing us all.

Yes, Actually I have a friend that has them. She just had one that she invited me to but i couldn't go. Seems to be a hit for her!! I can imagine it would seem chaotic and stressful but as long as you plan it out i guess it all works out ok?

Yeah, I've seen this, esp for Boudoir photographers. Photographer sets up, brings a bunch of props etc.. I think it would work well for kids to, though the boudoir sounds like more fun.

I got cut off before I was able to finish my post. I hit reply by accident. lol! But yeah, an aquaintance of my just did one of these. It was a pinup/boudoir thing. I think they are going to do it once a month or so. It was actually pretty cool! They blogged it. Here is the link. I hope it is still there. I can't tell at work. It's filtered.

I guess it would work well if your business model was based around prints, which mine isn't, so it would be stupid of me to do it, unless the host was willing to foot the bill for the session, or the attendees would split the cost etc. Just not worth the headache to design and sell in my mind. I think the hardest sell would be to the wife..

"Hey honey, I'm going to go over to Jill's house and spend a couple of hours taking pictures of her and her 10 friends in their underwear"

Yea, not so sure that would go over too well, especially since there would prob be a wine tasting as well to get everyone "comfortable" But the idea of it sounds fun right?!
I had a guy friend offer to come help out with a potential client to give me tips.. then he had to second guess that for the same reason! lol After meeting his wife i know why!! I'm not sure how he is ALLOWED to take any pics of other females!
