Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me..... I was informed a couple of days ago that I have been chosen to show my images (landscape/scenic) in a nearby ski town gallery for the month of Jan 2010. While I am excited, because this will be my first gallery showing, I am also nervous. I will have 3 shelf spaces that are 46" wide and 13" high. So most of my images I'm anticipating won't be that big....except maybe the ones that will be on the top shelf. I will be able to go to the gallery and see the space I will have, once they open, which is the day after thanksgiving. My question is....I am in the process of anticipating which images I will be showing in the gallery, and one of them is one that I have had printed 8x12 and so far had good responses from those I showed it to...It's an image I captured off of a mountain backroad this fall of a mountain scene, clouds, mist, great post-storm light, and someone's beautiful log home in the scene. There are no cars or anything parked in view. Would I need a property release, or permission from the owners of this house to show/sell this image in the gallery? I think someone does live there year-round (there are other homes in the area; In the winter, people park at this spot just west of the nearest town and snowmobile in and out to their homes.) I'm confused about this, but I really want to show this image, as I think it's a potential seller. Thanks in advance for any help.

Selling images as art is not a commercial use. I suggest you get the book: A Digital Photographers Guide to Model Releases by Dan Heller, and read the section devoted to Property Releases.
