Default Copyright when working for a studio?

I just saw an ad in the paper that a local photography studio is hiring. It is one of the chain type studios, they offer training, blah blah blah. For the record, I am NOT planning to apply. With my husband's business, it is impossible for me to work outside of the home. He makes all of our money and he needs me to be available to take care of the fam when he needs to work. Bottom line. That's how it is for us. Plus, I really want to do my own thing anyways.
But I was just curious as to how copyright of the photos work when a person is employed by a studio. Does the "studio" or the individual photographer retain the copyright? If I had to guess, I would say that it would be the studio.

Outside of the rare special arrangement, you are correct. It would be work for hire within the scope of assigned duties, and therefore © would belong to the studio.

Correct. It would be the studio in the first instance as this would be "employment" in the classic sense.

Most likely a work for hire contract. Means that they own the copyright and images.
