Default what do you think of this?

i'm thinking of applying for a unpaid photography gig which will hopefully give me some experience in fashion photography. I looking at it quite seriously then read something which has been discussed on here.... i'll paste it up and let you guys see it for yourself

We are having our end of year Catwalk show and are in need of a photographer. The show will be on Tuesday 16th of November from 7:00pm- 9:00pm we would require you to come and set up and be ready for this time.
We will supply copies of the photos, a DVD drinks and nibbles.

then it reads this:

Location: Wellington, New Zealand

Payment details: copy of photos, DVD, drinks and nibbles

Photographer

To take photos of catwalk show and supply us with a master dvd of photos.
Any gender, aged 18 to 99 from New Zealand

In the first paragraph it reads "We will supply copies of the photos, a DVD drinks and nibbles.".. they going to supply the photographer with copies of my photo's?. If i get this gig I won't be giving away a master dvd full of photo's..... now am i reading this the right way or have i gone off the beaten track and taken a wrong turn?... how do you guys read this and whats your thoughts?

PS: i havn't clicked *apply* as yet.. i have till the 16th of Nov to decide etc

cheers
Grant

Default Rights

They want someone to do the work, and then retain all rights to the photos. If they pay you for the photograpy they they will have the rights to the em.... Yur not reading it wrong..

They ask YOU to give them all the images on a DVD, and it seems like your "fee" will be a copy of those images (whatever that means), drinks and snacks.

E-mail them for clarification, but Ive got a funny feeling theyre fishing for someone to do a lot of work for free.

I'm actually looking for someone to give me a Picasso painting and I'll give him a copy in return... anyone interested?

I agree - it sounds like they are saying - you give us the DVD - we'll print your photos for you (but we're keeping your pictures).

can't email them as I'd need to apply for the job and then they contact you by cell phone/home phone etc

@Mr Jones: I have heaps of crappy pictures you can have and I'd call them my Van Shed's !

seriously though guys.. your input is much appreciated, But I'm wondering if this is a unpaid gig then I (being the photographer) still retain all the copyrights to the pictures even if it's their show?...so technically they can't ask for the master dvd. all they or would be entitled to would be a copy of it correct?....... I'm seriously thinking of modifying my contract to accommodate things like this

cheers

The thing is, it's you who should be supplying them with the final processed photographs in the format you have negotiated with them. After all, you are the photographer, right? Or are you just that dude with a camera?

And you must always retain copyright ownership and your clients obtain a license to use those images.

I would be wary of this gig.

Sounds like something that would get posted on Starnow ? I wouldnt bother shooting it tbh - they basically / usually want someone to do a shitload of work for as it says - nibbles and a few drinks and grab the rights to all your images !
