Hey, do any of you portrait photographers use a green-screen background? If so, do you like the results? I've seen examples online that range from downright embarrassing to completely faked (by doing it the real way) to plausible. I know lighting is key, but is this an avenue worth pursing this winter when shooting outside becomes difficult?

I've played with it. I don't like it. It takes a lot of work and planning to get to look right. Once you get the screen evenly illuminated, you need to match the light on your subject to the light in the background you want to add in unless it's something funky. Then you're locked in to one subject position, one light position, etc etc etc.

I do use a bluescreen backdrop, but I use it as just a blue backdrop.

Truth be told, in PS any solid color works just as well provided the same colors aren't in your subject. A grey or white BG works even better than blue or green.
