I've only been recently getting back into to shooting often and when a friend approached me to shoot at his nightclub i did it for nothing as a favor. When i got favorable compliments on the pics i chose to do a few more at a modest price. Upon doin some research there are a hell of alot of talented "Nightclub Photographers" and it's another division of photography that deserves some respect. But of course there are the downsides of any business and having people not understanding your art and paying accordingly or the upcomers who'll do anything for a buck or to get their name out. Thanks guys. I wish you all the best. You'll be hearing (reading, lol) from me soon.

These promoters and club owners only care about getting the cheapest work for next to nuthing. Good for you..........let him have P & S for a while, maybe that'll bring him to his senses. Glad you stuck by your principles.

Default charging for a nightclub gig

Take the $100 the club owner offers you with the understanding that you will give your business card to every person you photograph and have them order pics from you . Get with a professional digital processer and charge at least 300% mark up on your pics. I use Winfflash. Their price on 4x6 is 8 cents american, 5x7 29 cents american and 8x10 $1.49 american. I charge 99 cents for the 4x6, $3.95 for the 5x7 and 9.95 for the 8x10. Doing it this way you can make a killing. Set up your web site to upload your pics too and let them pic with a watermark over the pic to keep them from stealing the pics and then upload the picked pics to the processor and they will mail them directly to your clients.

Best Wishes

I'll tell you right away: most people that go to Clubs A) wont keep the business cards and B) wont buy prints. This would be a waste of time if it;s for anything longer than an hour of coverage.

Agreed. I'm very skeptical that anyone could "make a killing" at this scheme, and would like to see actual numbers proving such.
